Session Description

Alteryx would like to propose George Mathew, president & COO, for a session titled the “Emerging Strategies for Big Data Analytics within the Enterprise” at E2. This is right in George’s wheelhouse, given the role Alteryx plays in helping companies develop new strategies and answer strategic questions using big data analytics.

George will break down these strategies by exploring how big data is changing the nature of decision making and how it us used to solve complex business problems across three sectors:

  • Politics. Organizations and political campaign strategists are using political, demographic, psychographic and geographic information to fine-tune campaign strategies far faster than before and to micro-target influential pockets of voters. In addition:
    •  A national labor union is using spatial queries mapped against huge demographic databases to organize local union workers.
    • The “Women’s Voices” non-profit has been targeting unmarried women to get them to register to vote. Using big data analytics they discovered that 34% of their list was already registered. Removing these people from their outreach is saving them $900,000 per year in direct mail cost reduction.
  • Retail. Big data analysis is guiding Chipotle’s store site selection, helping them expand far faster and more successfully than competition. Site selection using big data analytics has become a huge competitive advantage in the restaurant business.
  • Telecommunications. The biggest business metric for telecom businesses is “churn.” They can predict customer churn levels by level of signal strength. With big data analytics they can finally mash up signal strength data with customer databases and better predict business performance.

What knowledge will an E2 attendee gain or benefit from your session?

George will share his insight on how Big Data and strategic analytics are becoming a single concept. From working in the critical market segments of business intelligence, cloud computing, and process optimization George is uniquely placed to map the key trends that impact both decision makers and those that support them everyday. He will discuss the role of the Data Artisan in Strategic Analytics – the person responsible for building the analytic applications and doing ad-hoc analysis on any type of content from any source  whether internal business data, 3rd party industry content, or location intelligence – and how Big Data is a critical issue facing them as they struggle to convert it to coherent analytic content.

George will touch on how a solution like Alteryx helps solve these issues, enabling customers to understand the impact on their current business, as well as that of competitors. The solution lets you analyze your current business within the context of the most recent economic, customer and competitive information so that you can create smarter, more competitive strategies about which products to push, where to allocate your current resources, and how to drive the most revenue from your various lines of business.

Big data is but one of many, interrelated trends and E2 attendees will walk away from the session with a clear understanding of how these meta trends impact the type and mode for decision making that organization make and how there are solutions out there and customer examples that prove they can be dealt with in a way that increases the value of the decisions made an prove that the data artisan is the true hero of Strategic Decision making and Big Data.
